Since June 2019 Santiago Otamendi has been serving as Judge of the Supreme Court of Buenos Aires City. Starting from this year, he also holds the position of Secretary of Institutional Relations of the Federal Board of Courts and Supreme Courts of the Argentine Provinces and Buenos Aires City. Prior to these roles, he was Secretary of Justice at the National Ministry of Justice and Human Rights of the Argentine Republic. During his tenure, he held positions as Vice-president and subsequently President of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

From 2012 to 2014 Santiago Otamendi served as Secretary General for Access to Justice and Human Rights at the General Prosecutor’s Office. Additionally, he has held the role of Director of International Affairs at the Argentine Federation of the Judiciary. From 2010 to 2012 he served as Counselor at the Council of the Judiciary, overseeing the selection of candidate judges for legislative approval, handling disciplinary matters concerning magistrates and managing the judiciary’s budget.

In academia, Santiago Otamendi currently serves as Director of the Master’s in Justice Administration and Oral Litigation at the Argentine Catholic University. Additionally, he is an Associate Professor specializing in Global Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing at the National University of Buenos Aires and an Associate Professor of Criminal Procedure Law at the Institute for Public Security of the Metropolitan Police. Previously, he taught at the University of Granada and Stetson University College of Law. He has authored numerous papers and has been a speaker at various congresses focusing on justice and criminal policy affairs.
