Dr. Noora Mohamed Alshamlan
About
Dr. Noora AlShamlan is a Professor of Criminal Law and International Criminal Law at the University of Bahrain. She holds a Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.) from Indiana University Maurer School of Law and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the University of Pittsburgh.
She serves as Advisory Board Chair of the International Institute for Justice Excellence (IIJE), where she is actively involved in its initiatives and events aimed at advancing judicial and court administration practices globally. She is also a member of the Supreme Council for Women in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the International Law Association (ILA) – GCC Branch.
Dr. AlShamlan brings extensive international academic and professional experience, including contributing to the review of law programs across the region, as well as engaging in legal scholarship and publishing through her previous work with LexisNexis in the Middle East. She also contributes to civil society initiatives in Bahrain through her engagement with legal and civil law organizations, reflecting her commitment to legal development and community awareness.
Her work covers a range of areas, including criminal law, international criminal law, human rights, and the judiciary, as well as issues such as economic crimes, digital privacy, and refugee protection. She regularly participates in international conferences and legal forums, addressing contemporary topics such as artificial intelligence in judicial systems, access to justice, and legal reform.
In addition, she is actively involved in capacity-building and professional training, including work in combating trafficking in persons and collaboration with international organizations. She has also participated as a judge and arbitrator in leading international moot court competitions, including the Jessup and Vis Moots.
Her work reflects a strong commitment to strengthening justice systems, advancing legal education, and contributing to discussions on regional and international legal developments, particularly those affecting the GCC.
